Location

Temple Basin is located in the heart of the Southern Alps, near Arthur’s Pass Village.

Directions

During the summer months, the Goods Lift operates by prior arrangement only.

Access to the carpark is via State Highway 73, a 1-2 hour drive from Greymouth on the west coast or Christchurch on the east. Temple Basin is unique in that there is no vehicle access to the top. Instead, a 40-50 minute walk from the car park is needed to reach the ski area lodges.  Hiking boots or running shoes with an aggressive sole are suitable footwear for the track, which is steep and rocky in places.

SEND YOUR STUFF UP THE GOODS LIFT!  Approximately 800 meters west of the car park you’ll find the Goods Lift which can send your bags directly to the upper mountain.
