Todd Windle Big Mountain Session

Join Todd Windle at Temple Basin on August 21 and 22 for a big mountain skills weekend.

Todd is carving out a reputation as New Zealand’s pre-eminent big mountain skier. He has competed internationally on the extreme ski circuit and made ski descents of big mountains.
Todd’s resume includes results at the highest levels in both national and international free skiing championships, a ski decent of Mt Cho Oyo - the 6th highest mountain in the world,
a ski decent of Mount Cook and descents including Mt Blanc, France; Maranelli Coulouir, Italy and Mt Elbrus, Russia.

The weekend’s focus is on backcountry skills and big mountain skiing/boarding, learning what is possible and on meeting like-minded people to get enthused with for some back country missions. Todd will impart knowledge and skills covering: safety, backcountry skills (transceiver, avalanche awareness),
equipment, identification of lines, recognition of conditions, staying in control, and landings.

You must be a strong intermediate to advanced skier or snowboarder that can tackle black runs perhaps with some trepidation. Participants must be prepared to work hard and to hike. Video analysis of the days skiing/boarding will be shown in the evening and all photos and video will be available in a digital format to participants. In order to maximise the learning experience the weekend is restricted to a maximum of six
participants but requires a minimum of 4 participants to proceed.

The weekend includes two days lift passes (including tow belt), dinner bed and breakfast and accommodation on Saturday night.  Accommodation for those who wish to arrive on Friday evening is included too. However lift passes and dinner on Friday are additional.

Equipment Requirements: participants are required to have their own ski/snow board gear that they are familiar and comfortable with. The following equipment is mandatory: helmet, avalanche transceiver, collapsible avalanche probe, avalanche shovel and day pack. If you are unable to procure this equipment please let us know in advance so that we can arrange this equipment for you.
